I particularly appreciated the insightful material from Dean's notebooks. You are absolutely correct about the positive nature of Dean's work. I have noticed in comments elsewhere on the Web that some people who love Abner Dean have found his work comforting in times of distress. He sees and displays what is wrong with us, but his criticism is constructive and hopeful.
